Rude defeats for World champion Viswanthan Anand and fellow Grandmaster Koneru Humpy summed up a pathetic day for the Indians in the first round of Corus Chess tournament at Wijk Aan Zee in The Netherlands.

Hot favourite for the crown with his enviable record on the Dutch soil, Anand was in for a surprise against in-form Teimour Radjabov of Azerbaijan as the latter showcased his deep preparation and technical acumen to romp home in the ‘A’ group.

Aussie media slams Team India

While Ricky Ponting and his teammates continue to cop criticism for their abrasive demeanour on the field, the indomitable Australian media went on a counter-attack and compiled a rap chart to claim that India is the worst-behaved team under the sun.

‘The Sunday Telegraph’ painstakingly collected and collated official ICC data, which shows India having faced more sanctions than any other Test playing nation in the past 10 years.

Science fair attracts 30,000 students

Sciencehe ongoing Science fair here has been attracting large numbers of students from different parts of the district. An estimated 30,000 students visited the exhibition in the past three days.Few students who waited in the Sun fainted for lack of shade and drinking water. Cashing on the problem, few people started selling water packets at exorbitant rates. Some good Samaritans were found distributing free biscuit packets to the students who came from long distances to see the exhibition.. Minister for Major Industries and Sugar J. Geetha Reddy would be distributing prizes at the Valedictory on Saturday.

A promise is a promise: Tata unveils Rs 1 lakh “Nano”

New Delhi, Jan 10: Finally Ratan Tata’s dream, a small car for the teeming millions, has been unveiled. Christened the “Nano”, it for sure is a stunner when it comes to looks. An emotional Ratan Tata drove the car to the podium and said, “This is what I have for you. A promise is a promise, it will cost Rs 1 lakh ex-showroom.”

Rowling back in write lane

RowlingHarry Potter author J K Rowling has written a new book,

But most fans will not be able to buy a copy of The Tales Of Beedle The Bard — just seven copies of the work will be produced, with six going to people involved with the Potter books, and a seventh being auctioned.

The seventh copy of ‘The Tales Of Beedle The Bard’ will be auctioned by Sotheby’s in London on 13 December in aid of Rowling’s charity The Children’s Voice, which campaigns to help vulnerable children across Europe.
