Team India in the finals

India has beaten Sri Lanka by 7 wickets at the Hobart ODI today (February 26), making it to the finals of the Survivor Series. Master blaster Sachin Tendulkar scored his 88th half-century to help India set up a clash against Australia in the best of three finals of the cricket tri-series.

Brief scores were: Sri Lanka 179 all out in 47.1 overs (Ch. Kapugedera 57; S. Jayasuriya 34; K. Sangakkara 33; I. Sharma 4/41; P. Kumar 4/31). India 180 for 3 in 32.2 overs (S. Tendulkar 63; G. Gambhir 63 not out; Yuvraj Singh 36; L. Malinga 1/36; D. Perera 1/17; M. Muralitharan 1/54).

After losing an early wicket of opener Robin Uthappa, Indian batsmen steadied the innings today (February 26) after Sri Lanka were dismissed for 179 runs in the do-or-die encounter in the Hobart one-dayer.

MS Dhoni sprung a surprise early on as Robin Uthappa opened the innings for India along with Sachin Tendulkar in the absense of Virender Shewag. However the batsman failed to get going after hitting a couple of boundaries. Sachin Tendulkar and Gautam Gambhir then steadied the Indian innings.

Earlier Indian bowlers rattled the Sri Lankan batting line-up. Speedster Ishant Sharma continued his brilliant performance Down Under, picking up four Lankan batsmen getting the early breakthrough today (February 26).

Just when Sanath Jayasuriya and Kumar Sangakkara were looking dangerous having added a 57-run partnership for the second wicket, Praveen Kumar hit back to dismiss Sangakkara at 33. He continued troubling the Lankan batsmen sending back Jayawardene for 3 runs and Chamara Silva at nought.

Irfan Pathan got the vital breakthrough dismissing in-form Sanath Jayasuriya for 34.

Ishant Sharma still had some unfinished business; the Delhi pacer got two quick wickets of Dilshan and Vaas.

Before finishing his spell, Ishant broke the 46-run eight wicket stand between Malinga and Kapugadera which saw Sri Lanka pass the 150-run mark.

Muralitharan, who offered some resistance down the order was Praveen Kumar’s fourth wicket.
