Patil leaves for India after 4-day Bhutan visit

Reflecting the warmth in bilateral ties, Bhutan’s 4th King Jigme Singey Wanchuck went inside the special aircraft of President Pratibha Patil to bid farewell to India’s head of the state after her four-day visit to the tiny Himalayan state.
During her stay in Bhutan, Patil along with UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi attended the coronation ceremony of the Himalayan nation’s fifth King, 28-year old Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck, the world’s youngest monarch.

The last high-level visit to Bhutan was made by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in May after Druk Phuensum Tshogpa (DPT) party leader Jigme Y Thinley was elected Prime Minister of the first democratically elected government.

President Patil, whose visit gave a further boost to bilateral relations, was given a warm send off at the airport here with the 4th King going inside the aircraft to bid her farewell.

The Bhutanese Prime Minister saw the President off at her hotel in Thimpu.
